Fjorur

Fjörur is a stretch of black volcanic sand beneath Vestrahorn, on the Stokksnes headland near Höfn in Iceland's far south-east. Dark dunes and shallow tidal pools reflect the mountain's jagged gabbro peaks, which is why this is one of the country's most photographed coastlines. A toll on the private access road keeps it quieter than the big beaches further west. On clear, calm nights it also works for the northern lights.
