Vestrahorn Panorama

The stop is about convenience rather than spectacle. Route 1 runs past the car park, so the view costs no detour. What it gives is an open view of the ocean, and how much that is worth depends entirely on the sky. At sunrise on a clear day the low light across the water justifies the stop. Under cloud there is nothing to see. Drones may be flown here. Anyone driving on to Stokksnes will get a better view there and can pass this one by.

• No toilets: There are no toilets at the viewpoint or its car park.
• Cloud cancels the view: On an overcast day there is nothing to see from here.
• Drones are allowed: A drone can be flown from the viewpoint.
• A break, not an outing: The stop suits a leg-stretch and a coffee on the drive north, and little else.

Vestrahorn Panorama lies on Route 1 itself, on the drive between Höfn and the road north, so the stop costs no detour. Arrival is by car, and drivers pull straight off the road. From the car park it is 73 metres to the viewpoint, a walk of under a minute.

Best: Sunrise on a clear day; a winter sunrise is the one to aim for.

Avoid: Overcast weather.
