Huldujokudl Viewpoint
About the place
The Huldujökull viewpoint looks out over an ice-and-ash outlet glacier of the Mýrdalsjökull ice cap, above the Þakgil valley in south Iceland. There is no road to it — you reach the edge on a long hike from the Þakgil campsite. The glacier is split by deep crevasses and streaked with dark volcanic tephra, with waterfalls and cliffs below and the crack of breaking ice. It is a remote, austere place for fit, well-prepared walkers.
