Hafursey Mountain

Hafursey Mountain is a volcanic mountain located near the Myrdalsjokull glacier and the Katla volcanic system. The mountain stands out as a dark, rugged island amid vast sandur plains, shaped by repeated volcanic eruptions and glacial floods. Its slopes reveal clear layers of basalt and volcanic ash, making Hafursey Mountain an expressive example of Iceland’s geological history and a striking landmark along the southern highlands. It also gained global recognition as a filming location for "Rogue One: A Star Wars Story," where its black sands and rugged slopes created an alien planetary landscape.
