Reynisfjall Observation Deck

Reynisfjall rises straight from the coast between Vík and the black beach of Reynisfjara, and the view from its flat summit is the reason to climb. From the edge the whole sweep of black sand lies below, with the Reynisdrangar stacks offshore, the Dyrhólaey arch to the west and Vík's red-roofed church at the foot of the mountain. Puffins nest along the cliffs in summer. Getting up is real work — a steep, unmarked climb or a punishing 4WD track — which keeps the beach crowds far below.
