Hamarsrett sheep pen

About the place
Hamarsrett sheep pen is a historic stone sheep enclosure on the Vatnsnes peninsula. It was built in 1883 from massive basalt stones and features a circular structure divided into sections. During the annual autumn sheep roundup, farmers bring thousands of sheep here from mountain pastures for sorting. The pen is located on the ocean shore where steep sea cliffs meet extensive coastal boulder fields. Hamarsrett sheep pen offers a striking view of traditional Icelandic sheep herding practices against a dramatic natural backdrop.
