Hvitserkur Rock

Hvítserkur stands just off the Vatnsnes shore in northwest Iceland, a 15-metre basalt stack on two thick legs of dark rock. Depending on the angle it reads as a drinking dragon, a rhino, or a troll — local legend says a troll turned to stone here at sunrise. Seabirds nest on it and streak it white, which gives it its name, 'white shirt.' A clifftop platform overlooks the stack, and at low tide a path drops to the black-sand beach at its feet.
