Hvitserkur Rock

Hvitserkur Rock

About the place

Hvitserkur Rock rises 15 meters above Hunafloi Bay and is a striking basalt formation. Its shape, formed by centuries of erosion, resembles a dragon or mammoth drinking water. The name means “White Shirt,” referring to the bird guano covering its surface. Concrete at the base protects this fragile natural monument from the tide. Legends say Hvitserkur is a petrified troll caught by the sunrise, and at low tide visitors can approach the rock along the sandy seabed.
