Ibon de Plan

Ibon de Plan

About the place

Ibon de Plan lake, also called Basa de la Mora, sits in a glacial cirque carved into the high Pyrenean peaks. Steep limestone cliffs rise above the calm turquoise waters, while alpine meadows and scattered pine stands cling to the rocky slopes. The lake is fed by snowmelt and glacial runoff, its clarity maintained by natural filtration through the surrounding rocks. Its basin preserves the traces of past glacial activity, with moraines forming natural dams at the edges. This remote lake supports a fragile alpine ecosystem, with endemic tritons and high-altitude orchids adapted to a short growing season.
