Kaldalón

Kaldalón

About the place

Kaldalón — the cold lagoon — is a broad glacial valley on the north shore of Ísafjarðardjúp, in the Westfjords. Its pale water is milky with silt from Drangajökull, the region's only remaining glacier, which pushes an outlet tongue down towards the valley head. Gravel Road 635 runs along the shore past the lagoon, and the walk towards the ice starts here. The doctor and composer Sigvaldi Stefánsson took the valley's name as his surname.
