Kalfshamarsvik Lighthouse

Kálfshamarsvík is a small cove at the tip of the Skagi peninsula in northwest Iceland, where an Art Deco lighthouse — a rarity in the country — stands on a shelf of hexagonal basalt columns. The columns are bent and broken into strange geometric steps, and turf-house ruins of a fishing hamlet that emptied by the mid-twentieth century dot the headland; its last resident left in 1961. A short loop links the tower, the columns and the ruins.
