Pedra Rija Viewpoint
About the place
The Pedra Rija viewpoint is located on the ridge of the Vereda do Areeiro trail between Pico do Areeiro and Pico Ruivo on Madeira Island. From here, you can enjoy panoramic views of mountainous valleys and rugged cliffs, sometimes with a sea of clouds below. This section of the trail is known as the “stairway to heaven,” featuring steep steps carved into the rock. It’s an ideal spot for photos, but caution is advised — the trail is at a high altitude, with narrow sections that require careful attention.
