Piedrafita Lake

Piedrafita Lake

About the place

Piedrafita Lake is a glacial lake located at about sixteen hundred meters above sea level in the heart of the Pyrenees. The term ibon refers to mountain lakes formed by ancient glaciers, and this site is among the most accessible examples in the region. The lake reflects the vertical limestone cliffs of the Sierra de Partacua, forming a dramatic natural amphitheater. Water colors shift from light blue to deep emerald depending on light and season. During snowmelt, the surrounding alpine meadows and peaks enhance the visual impact of the landscape.
