Urdaviti Lighthouse

Urdaviti Lighthouse

About the place

The Urdaviti Lighthouse is a futuristic white tower raised on thin supports with a long inclined ladder. It stands on “new land” formed after the 1973 Eldfell volcanic eruption. The surrounding landscape is quiet and dramatic, with black volcanic rock contrasting against the white structure. The lighthouse resembles an art object or observation tower more than a traditional lighthouse. From this point, visitors enjoy excellent views of the ocean and nearby islands. The structure appears light and floating above the dark lava fields.
