About the place

Stórhöfði is the wind-battered cape at the southern tip of Heimaey, in the Westman Islands, and one of Iceland's best places to see a puffin. A small wooden hide is set into the slope on the sheltered side, its viewing slots letting you watch out of the fierce wind as thousands of birds come and go from cliff burrows a few metres away. The colony is among the largest on earth. Stórhöfði is also the windiest place in Europe, with only a handful of calm days a year — so dress for a gale even in July.
