Blahnukur Volcano

About the place
Bláhnúkur — also written Bláhnjúkur — is the mountain that rises directly over the Landmannalaugar campsite in Iceland's southern highlands. Its name means 'Blue Peak', and its slopes are streaked blue-black and green with rhyolite and old ash. The path up is famously steep: switchbacks on loose scree, about an hour for most. The summit opens a panorama over the coloured hills, and many link it with the Brennisteinsalda loop. A serious climb, best in clear weather.
