Frostastadavatn Scenic Viewpoint
About the place
This viewpoint overlooks Frostastaðavatn, a highland lake ringed by rhyolite mountains just north of Landmannalaugar, in the Fjallabak Nature Reserve. Minerals from old eruptions and geothermal activity can turn the water vivid blue or green, and on calm days the striped peaks and black lava fields reflect across it. The small Stútur crater sits just below. The F208 that reaches it is 4x4-only and open only in summer.
