Landmannalaugar Geothermal Area
About the place
Landmannalaugar is the hub of Iceland's Fjallabak highlands — a bowl of colour-streaked rhyolite mountains over black obsidian lava and steaming ground. It is the interior's main trailhead: day walks climb Bláhnúkur and the coloured hills, and the multi-day Laugavegur trek starts here for Þórsmörk. A mountain hut and campsite make it a base, not a stop, reached only over the summer F-roads.
