Hveradalir

About the place
Hveradalir is a geothermal valley in the Kerlingarfjöll mountains, in Iceland's central highlands. Rhyolite slopes in orange, red and gold are cut by steam vents, boiling mud pots and hot streams, with snow lingering on the peaks into summer. Boardwalks and steps let you move through the colour and steam safely. The valley sits far from any paved road, reached over mountain F-roads that open only in summer.
