Hveravellir Hot Springs

In the rhyolite mountains of Kerlingarfjöll, in Iceland's central highlands, a warm stream collects in a rocky basin big enough for a handful of people. It is reached on foot from Highland Base along a marked path across the river and up the valley, the water warming from icy meltwater to a comfortable geothermal soak. There are no changing rooms and no attendant, and it opens only in the short summer, when the highland F-roads are passable.
