Faxafoss Waterfall

Faxafoss — usually just Faxi — is a wide, low waterfall on the Tungufljót river, an easy turn off the Golden Circle a few kilometres south of Geysir and Gullfoss. It stands only about seven metres tall but nearly ninety metres across, so the whole river fans into one smooth white sheet; the name comes from the Icelandic fax, a horse's mane. A stepped salmon ladder climbs the eastern bank, and it pulls a fraction of the crowds its famous neighbours do.
