Bruarhlod Gorge

Brúarhlöð is a small gorge on the Golden Circle, upstream of the far busier Gullfoss. The glacier-fed Hvítá narrows between low, dark walls, its water a milky, creamy blue from fine sediment carried off the Langjökull ice cap. A short walk from the car park leads to viewpoints above the river. It is a modest stop rather than a headline sight, but the colour and quiet make a pleasant break. Rafting trips on the Hvítá finish here, so boats sometimes drift through below.
