Mulagljufur Canyon

About the place
Múlagljúfur is a deep, moss-lined gorge in south-east Iceland, between the Fjallsárlón and Jökulsárlón glacier lagoons. For years drivers passed it, seeing nothing from the Ring Road. An unmarked gravel track climbs to a small car park, where a rising path leads to viewpoints over the gorge. The highlight is Hangandifoss, a thread of water falling more than 120 metres — one of Iceland's tallest falls — often with the Öræfajökull icefall behind it.
