Fjadrargljufur Canyon

Fjadrargljufur Canyon

About the place

The Fjaðrá river winds along the floor of this canyon in south Iceland, almost lost between dark, moss-draped walls that rise up to 100 metres high. A path along the eastern rim reaches a series of viewpoints, each looking down on another bend, with a slender waterfall at the far end. Meltwater cut the gorge into older rock at the close of the last Ice Age. A Justin Bieber video brought crowds and erosion — the reason you now keep strictly to the marked trail.
