Stjornarfoss Waterfall
About the place
Stjórnarfoss sits in the Kleifar area, a few minutes from Kirkjubæjarklaustur, a service village on the Ring Road between Vík and the southeast glaciers. The Stjórn river spreads over a broad basalt ledge and drops in two clear steps, wide rather than tall, ringed by grassy slopes with a small campsite alongside. It never gathers the crowds of the big South Coast falls, and it makes an easy first stop before Fjaðrárgljúfur and Systrafoss.
