Sigoldugljufur Canyon

Sigoldugljufur Canyon

About the place

Sigöldugljúfur is a highland canyon in Iceland's interior, nicknamed the "Valley of Tears". Along one wall, dozens of thin waterfalls fall through bright green moss into a winding river the colour of milky turquoise — moss, black basalt and blue water in three sharp bands. On a still, clear day it's one of the most striking spots in the interior. It sits at the end of a rough mountain road past the Sigalda power station, a short walk from a small gravel car park, on the same route as Sigöldufoss just below.
