Hamrafoss Waterfall

About 10 km east of Kirkjubæjarklaustur, a thin ribbon of water slips over a low, mossy cliff beside the Ring Road. Its map name, Foss á Síðu, means "the waterfall of the Síða district"; locals call it Hamrafoss, after the crags it drops over. The lake Þórutjörn feeds it, so the flow varies with the season, and a stiff easterly can blow the spray back up over the lip. You view it from the roadside verge; the Dverghamrar basalt cliffs stand directly across.
