Hjalteyri Hot Tub

The Hjalteyri hot tub is a plain geothermal pool at the very edge of Eyjafjörður, among the weathered buildings of an old herring village north of Akureyri. There is nothing polished about it: no staff, no changing rooms, just hot water and the cold fjord at your feet. On a good day whales surface offshore. It is the raw, local answer to Iceland's big commercial baths — best taken slowly and left as clean as you found it.
