About the place

Laufas turf farm and museum is a historic turf farm on the eastern shore of Eyjafjordur. The site is known from the settlement period of Iceland in the ninth and tenth centuries. The present complex of connected turf houses was rebuilt in the eighteen sixties. The estate was unusually wealthy, housing up to thirty residents including a priest and workers. Today, Laufas turf farm and museum presents authentic interiors and tools from the nineteenth century.
