Húsavík Harbor
About the place
The harbour is the reason Húsavík exists. In 1995 Iceland's first commercial whale-watching tours set out from this quay in converted oak fishing boats, and the fleet still ties up here between trips out onto plankton-rich Skjálfandi Bay, where humpbacks, minke whales and white-beaked dolphins feed. Cafés, fish restaurants, the Whale Museum and the red wooden Húsavíkurkirkja stand around the water, with snow-streaked mountains across the fjord.
