Ibones Azules

About the place
The Ibones Azules are natural glacial lakes situated at an altitude of over 2,300 meters above sea level. The highlight of these lakes, divided into "Lower" and "Upper," is their intense sapphire hue, which stands out brilliantly against the surrounding granite peaks. The trail to reach them passes through the renowned Respómuso mountain refuge and across stony paths offering views of the Balaitus massif. The word "ibón" itself means a high-mountain lake in the Aragonese dialect, emphasizing the unique toponymy and cultural identity of this region. The crystal-clear water, framed by slopes that often remain snow-capped even in summer, makes this spot one of the most striking points on a challenging trekking route.
