Ingjaldsholskirkja church

About the place

Ingjaldsholskirkja church is a historic church on the Snaefellsnes peninsula, built in 1903. It is considered the oldest concrete church in the world and remains an important architectural landmark. The church stands on a hill reached by a long straight road lined with lupines in summer. According to historical accounts, Christopher Columbus stayed here in 1477 while studying northern sea routes. From the hill, views open toward snow-covered sea cliffs and coastal boulder fields along the Atlantic coast.
