Kaefufoss Waterfall

About the place
Kæfufoss is one of the higher waterfalls on the Skógá, well above the famous Skógafoss in south Iceland. Here the river narrows into a tight gorge walled with green cliffs and dark rock. Getting to it means a long, sustained climb past a staircase of falls — and that is the point: the crowds vanish, and many hikers rate this the best on the route. It makes a satisfying turnaround for a half-day walk that gets you back in daylight.
