Krysuvik Church

The tar-black timber church served the Krýsuvík farms from 1857 and later became a protected building in the care of the National Museum. An arsonist burned it to the ground on the night of 2 January 2010. Students at Hafnarfjörður's vocational school rebuilt it to the original design using traditional joinery. The replica was trucked to the site in October 2020 and consecrated in 2022. It stands alone among the geothermal hills, one of the last traces of a vanished settlement.
