Mount Esja

About the place
Esja is a long wall of basalt and tuff about ten kilometres north of Reykjavík. Climbing it is the capital's favourite workout. The classic route to Þverfellshorn gains roughly 600 metres on a graded, marked path. It ends at the Steinn boulder, and above that the way steepens into a scramble. On a clear day the top looks out over the city, the fjord and half the peninsula.
