Tröllafoss Waterfall

Tröllafoss is a waterfall on the Leirvogsá river in the capital region, about 30 minutes' drive from Reykjavík. The river cuts through the caldera of the Stardalur volcanic centre, active some 1.8 million years ago, and drops into the 500-metre Tröllagljúfur gorge. The waterfall became a protected natural monument in 2020. From the car park it is an uneven kilometre on foot, with mountain views the whole way and often nobody at the falls.
