Oxararfoss Waterfall

About the place
Öxarárfoss is a broad, low waterfall in Þingvellir National Park, where the Öxará river drops over the rim of the Almannagjá rift, the boundary between the North American and Eurasian plates. Dark rock columns and a boulder-strewn pool frame it, and a level boardwalk from the upper car park reaches almost to its foot. It sits in Iceland's old parliament site and is usually seen with the rift. In winter the pool and path freeze and the fall turns to ice.
