Urridafoss Waterfall

Urriðafoss is not Iceland's tallest waterfall but its most powerful. It sits on the Þjórsá, the longest river in the country, where the water spreads into a churning curtain only a few metres high and thunders over dark lava in white braids that wrap around small islands. What it lacks in height it makes up for in width and sheer volume. A short, flat path from the car park reaches the viewpoints, and in winter a great dome of ice forms in the middle of the river.
