Kerid Crater

Kerid Crater

About the place

Kerid is a striking crater lake formed about 6500 years ago when the volcanic cone collapsed into an empty magma chamber. The crater features bright red volcanic walls covered with green moss, surrounding a deep aquamarine lake. The bowl-shaped crater provides excellent acoustics, sometimes used for concerts with floating stages. The lake is fed by groundwater rather than rainfall and never dries out. This site is privately owned, and a small fee helps maintain clean trails and safe access.
