Gljufrabui Waterfall

Gljufrabui Waterfall

About the place

Gljúfrabúi hides a few minutes' walk along the cliff from Seljalandsfoss, and most visitors photograph the famous neighbour without noticing the second waterfall next door. Its name translates as "canyon dweller". The fall drops inside a narrow gorge behind a tall free-standing rock, Franskanef, so the path offers only a dark slot and a distant roar. Wade the shallow stream through the slot and the walls widen into a green, dripping chamber, water crashing into a pool below a shaft of open sky. It is wet, loud and properly hidden, tucked just off the south-coast road.
