Grasagarður Botanical Garden
About the place
The city's botanical garden takes up a corner of Laugardalur, the green recreation valley east of central Reykjavík. Its 2.5 hectares hold the plants that can cope at this latitude: a systematic bed of native Icelandic flora, an alpine rockery, an arboretum and perennial borders around a small pond. Entry is free, the grounds never close, and Café Flóra serves coffee in a glasshouse at the centre. A quiet local walk rather than a headline sight.
