Harpa Concert Hall

Harpa Concert Hall

About the place

A concert hall and conference centre on Reykjavík's Old Harbour, Harpa opened in May 2011 — construction had frozen in the 2008 crash with the shell half-built, then restarted. The glass skin, hundreds of basalt-inspired cells devised by artist Olafur Eliasson for Henning Larsen's design, shifts colour with the sky and water by day and runs LED patterns after dark. It won the EU's Mies van der Rohe award in 2013. Walking in is free.
