Hestavadsfoss Waterfall

About the place
Hestavaðsfoss is the first of the many waterfalls on the Skógá above Skógafoss, on Iceland's south coast. You reach it on foot — up the staircase beside Skógafoss, through the gate at the top, then a few minutes upstream along the Waterfall Way. The river spreads over a broad shelf of dark volcanic rock and drops in two low steps between green banks. Much quieter than its famous neighbour, it also marks the start of the Fimmvörðuháls trek.
