Kvernufoss Waterfall

About the place

Kvernufoss is the quiet neighbour of Skógafoss: a single 30-metre ribbon that drops over dark, layered rock into a mossy, sheer-walled gorge just east of the Skógar museum in South Iceland. A short, easy path along the stream reaches the base — and, in summer, the cave-like ledge behind the water, where you look out through the falls. Most Ring Road traffic never turns off, so the gorge often feels like your own.
