Huldufoss Waterfall

The walk is the attraction as much as the waterfall. Huldufoss sits on a route that passes more than one fall, and one visitor compared the scenery to The Lord of the Rings. It stays quiet: 21 ratings in total, and in 2022 someone here called it not very touristy. Set your expectations for the falls themselves — a visitor in 2026 summed them up as pretty small. Come for the walking and for the run of waterfalls along the way, not for one big drop.

• Toilets: the nearest WC is under 500 m from the falls, at the hostel by the car park, and it is not free — a small donation is expected.
• Bring water: there is no drinking water within 5 km of the falls.
• Information point: there is a board within a kilometre of the waterfall.
• Children: the route is suitable for children, but it is a walk, so plan for the full distance there and back.

There is no bus; the approach is by car. The car park is not at the waterfall, so you leave the car and walk the last stretch, and Huldufoss comes as part of a walking route rather than at the end of the track. Whatever you walk in, you walk back out — leave time for the return leg.

Best: summer, and the late evening. The site is open around the clock, and Icelandic summer daylight runs well past normal visiting hours.

Avoid: treating it as a quick stop. The waterfall is reached on foot, so arriving with little daylight left leaves no time for the walk.
