Keldur Turf House
About the place
Keldur is a cluster of low, grass-roofed turf buildings on a working farm in the saga country north of Hella, in South Iceland. Its timber hall is medieval, with parts dating to the late 12th century, and the farm is named in Njáls saga. A short tunnel runs underground from the hall, dug as an escape route in dangerous times. Lived in until 1946, it is now cared for by the National Museum of Iceland and open for guided visits in summer.
