Lambafellsgja Canyon

About the place
Lambafellsgja is a narrow tectonic canyon cutting through the slopes of Lambafell Mountain on the Reykjanes Peninsula. It formed due to the divergence of the North American and Eurasian tectonic plates. Visitors can walk along the canyon floor between steep walls of hardened lava and tuff. The canyon’s hidden atmosphere of quiet and monumentality makes it a favorite spot for photographers. The trail to Lambafellsgja passes through scenic lava fields covered with Icelandic moss.
