Lambafellsgja Canyon

Lambafellsgjá is a narrow rift cut into Lambafell, a steep-sided hill near the cone of Keilir on the Reykjanes Peninsula. The path runs straight along the fissure floor — the seam where the North American and Eurasian plates pull apart — between walls of layered lava and tuff. It's about 900 metres on foot from a small car park at the end of a rough lava track, and most days the whole rift is yours alone.
