Skolavordustigur Street

About the place

Skólavörðustígur climbs gently from Reykjavík's old town to the doors of Hallgrímskirkja, and one stretch is painted in the full rainbow — a 2015 Pride initiative the city kept because people loved it. The church sits centred above the colours, the most photographed perspective in the city. Both sides are lined with wool shops, jewellers, galleries and cafés, among them the Handknitting Association of Iceland, where you can buy a genuine lopapeysa sweater.
