Unknown Bureaucrat sculpture

Unknown Bureaucrat sculpture

About the place

The sculpture stands at the north end of the Tjörnin pond, by the footbridge into Reykjavík City Hall. Below the waist it is a tidy bronze office worker: polished shoes, pressed trousers, a briefcase. Everything above is a rough block of Icelandic basalt. Magnús Tómasson made it in the early 1990s. Iceland has no army, so its monument is not to the unknown soldier but to the faceless official.
