Stakkholtsgja Viewpoint
About the place
Where the Stakkholtsgjá canyon trail leads deep into a slot in the rock, this viewpoint does the opposite: it opens the whole scene from the roadside. The view takes in the canyon's wide entrance and the braided glacial river below, framed by the peaks and moss-green slopes of the Þórsmörk reserve. It is a photo stop and a breather on the rough drive in. Like the canyon, it lies deep in the roadless highlands and opens only in summer.
