Valagil Waterfall

Valagil Waterfall

About the place

Valagil — meaning 'falcon gorge' — is a tall waterfall set in a canyon of ancient lava at the head of Álftafjörður, near Súðavík in the eastern Westfjords. A marked trail runs about 2 km each way through open meadow and often-boggy heath, crossing a river by footbridge before the falls appear where the rock walls close in. Because you have to walk in, it stays quiet and uncrowded — an easy-to-moderate half-day stop.
